Upon first meeting Del Hartley, one can easily mistake him for a fashion model. At 6 foot 2 with a slender build, this soft spoken artist’s demeanor exudes a touch of modest confidence. A modern day renaissance man with a throw-back flair for style with a talent to play the piano, which he taught himself to play by ear, whilst singing with a smooth melodic room filling voice that usually has the crowd asking for an encore. “I was blown away when he first walked into the studio,” Says producer Tariq Adi. “He sat at the piano and played an original song that left all of us in awe. I knew he was special and I decided to take him on and produce his project.”

At the tender age of 5, a young Del stumbled upon a VHS tape his mother previously recorded of Michael Jackson’s Live in Bucharest concert. He instantly fell in love with what appeared on the screen as he watched closely and mimicked the King of pop. Almost learning through osmosis the young Del found himself invited to parties and family functions to showcase his dancing talents. Del’s love for music continued to grow into his early teens where he apprehensively began singing while working a summer job. His co-workers, who were also his classmates, heard him quietly sing and instantly encouraged him to perform in front of the school assembly. “Man I was so scared, and I never performed in front of anybody ever,” Says Del, “I started singing the song and I think it was Usher’s “you remind me” and the mic didn’t work,” he says laughingly. “But I kept singing and I remember looking into a crowd of five hundred people with puzzled looks on their faces. Then the mic came back on and the crowd loved it.” The feeling was so electrifying that at that point Del knew exactly what he wanted to be…an entertainer.

With a unique sound that transcends the ordinary, Del’s sophisticated yet unique expression of music is a hybrid of the contemporary sprinkled with a touch of the soulful music of the 70s. With the falsetto of an Al Green and the deep baritone of Teddy Pendergrass, Del brings a sound to today’s industry that is considered by his listeners as nonpareil. Del refuses to put himself in a box or impose limitations on his style. He can perform just as well on an electronically laden track as he can play a guitar cover of a John Mayer song.

More recently Del has been working on writing and composing songs for his upcoming EP which he plans to record and release to radio and the public this upcoming year. During this same period Del has performed live on stage to many crowds at several venues including Galaxy 707 Nightclub and has found himself in front of the camera modeling for Sheridan College and up and coming Canadian clothing designers. He is currently enrolled at Sheridan’s Media Arts program where he has taken roles as Producer and Director on short film projects where his movie was nominated for best picture and eventually won. More recently, this young star to be has worked as a production assistant on music video shoots for top notch Canadian artists and bands such as Shawn Desman, Danny Fernandez, JRDN, Rich Kidd, Protest the Hero, City and Colour and Belly.
